PE & Sport

At Lightmoor Village Primary School we have been developing our sport provision as the school has grown.  We have recently achieved the School Games Bronze Award for our PE and sport provision. We currently have football teams entered into the Telford school tournaments, as well as netball teams, tag rugby and cross country teams.

We are part of the Telford Schools PE Partnership and have good links with other schools which enables staff to attend regular training and to smaller sporting events arranged with schools in our cluster.

We have Street Kings Sport Coaches in school three times a week who work with classes offering specialist coaching and also offer after school clubs. Crossbar Coaching hold an after school dance club, as well as staff leading other sporting clubs after school.

At Lightmoor we are always trying to find imaginative ways to spend our PE and Sport Premium Funding and have offered our children tasters in archery, rock climbing, circus skills, skate boarding, skipping, skiing and hula hooping.

We are also committed to the importance of all children being able to swim before they leave us and have taken our Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 children swimming.

This year, 2016/17, we have had a grant of £8,810 and we plan to invest it on the following:

  • PE resources for the whole school
  • Whole school Hula Hooping workshop
  • New school dance curriculum, which will include lesson plans and CPD for staff
  • Year 6 to take part in John Muir award for outdoor activities
  • Funding for transport coaches to sporting events over the year
  • Additional swimming sessions above the minimum requirement
